Burke asks for court to get 6.7% budget lift

SPRINGFIELD — Illinois Supreme Court Chief Justice Anne M. Burke this week asked lawmakers to boost the judicial branch’s funding by 6.7% in the upcoming fiscal year.In separate appearances before Illinois House and Senate appropriations panels, Burke called on lawmakers to meet constitutional obligations and to make “any criminal justice reform meaningful and successful.”The judicial branch is requesting $434.6 million for fiscal year 2021 — a $29.3 million increase from the current fiscal …
